[WHAT IS HAPPENING OUT HERE THIS IS THE WEIRDEST FUCKING AFTERLIFE HE'S EVER BEEN TO. WHY THREE EYES. WHY A LANCE. WHAT.
But she is looking at him so hopefully, what is he supposed to do but just kind of sweatily nod... AND THEN SHAKE HIS HEAD, WAIT NO.]
That may be dangerous! Or... Well. Rather, I suppose it shouldn't be...? But I haven't seen any sort of veil in the first place, unless you're referring to the fog.
Ah, well, I suppose I am making some assumptions... but I am inclined to think that whatever is causing us to lose our way is some kind of magic force. And so, maybe it's possible to break through it, or...
... or perhaps we just have to find the correct way?
He is absolutely expecting her to stop looking at the sky at some point, so when it drags on a bit too long, he's just kind of glancing around like WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT. And then looking back her way.]
...I'm so sorry, dear - what is it that you're doing, exactly...?
Oh! [ She looks back to him. ] My apologies. I must look very strange to you.
[ not because of the extra eye or anything, though ]
I actually once faced a trial very similar to this one... One meant to deceive the eyes and disorient the senses, causing one to always return to where they started should they stray down the wrong path.
The solution, then, was to find another way of looking at the path ahead.
Thank you very much, by dear. I'll be just a short while.
[Excuse him as he goes shuffling back off toward the edge of the fog and then closes his eyes to take a stroll through it.
Which undoubtedly ends up spitting him back out right where he started, except the problem is everything feels the same when there is fuckall to run into except a few clear protrusions and also other people, so he does not know he's made it back out yet.]
[IT'S FINE... Somehow he manages to walk fairly gracefully and confidently even with his eyes closed. Though he does immediately stop and open them again as soon as he hears that "oh".]
...Oh, dear. So it seems... It looks like closing one's eyes isn't the answer after all, then.
iii
Again...?
Oh! Yes. Perhaps we could try piercing the veil!
[ She also happens to be holding a fuckass huge lance. ]

[Just nodding slowly... YEAH MIGHT AS WELL BE MAGIC.]
Before trying anything that could be construed as an attack against this place, why don't we attempt a few more paths first?

[ she looks up.
and just keeps looking up at the sky. ]

Oh! My, that's almost exactly like this, then, isn't it? How very strange... Is it working for you here? This other way of trying to see the path...?
no subject
... but there appears to be nothing but blue sky here...
[ she might have been trying very hard to find a pattern in the clouds. ]

[GLANCING AROUND at the millions skies they're surrounded by on all sides.]
...What if we try walking with our eyes closed, then? If it's designed to baffle the senses.

I'll give it a try first, then. [He at least recognizes this is a DANGEROUS IDEA.] Will you wait for me here?
no subject
... Very well. I will stay here and pray for your success.

Oh! You've returned.
[ ... oh. returning with his eyes still closed is probably bad actually. hopefully she got her words out before he stumbled into something. ]
