[It can't be that simple. He's sure this guy says the same things people who have gotten lost in forests and the such have said before. Yeah, no, this can't go well]
I'm going with you.
[That's not a question, at all. It's a statement of fact. Not the most polite thing to have said, but oh well]
[ this hardly seems to bother him - the obvious skepticism or the statement, and he simply tilts his head to acknowledge it. ]
Young man, I would argue that you wouldn't know the way back any better than I would - but I can see you're the sort that's strong-willed once you've set your mind to something. [ it's said more as a compliment than to chastise him. ] Shall we?
[Akihiko sure tries to keep a straight line as well! Time to march forward and hope that, if some glass protrusion gets in the way, it won't lead to them walking in circles when trying to avoid it]
It's weird. There's no way this is anywhere close to where I was before...I don't know how to go back at all.
[And he really wants to go back to Tatsumi Port Island, even though he's also afraid of what he'll find out once he does]
[ it's going to be a long day... he gives his polearm a deft spin in one hand, bringing the point down to strike one such protrusion to see if it can be marked in some way - like leaving a trail behind them. but when nothing happens, and it's left unmarred, he frowns and resumes their trek. ]
... if this is meant to be an afterlife, I'm unsure of what path we would need to take back. But if there was a way to get here, then, surely, there is a way to return as well.
In all stories I have heard before, you're supposed to go up and never look back.
[Because, you know, the underworld and what not. Akihiko stares at any obstacles like he's evaluating how good it'd be to climb them and deciding it'd be too risky. He doesn't want to just go and break a leg today, thanks]
Mm. In only special circumstances - in folktale and legends, as they stand - the hero of the story is able to return from the land of the dead. But we shall see what roles we play in this particular story.
[ especially considering what he knows he must get back to. he's sure there are many others who could say the same. ]
[Takes a while, but soon it's clear walking forward won't do, because it's inevitable they'll find themselves back to where they started. Maybe they'll see the cafe again, or maybe they'll encounter one of the other new angels]
...but we were walking a straight line! What was it, a huge circle all along?
[Right? It sure felt like that, except for a few deviations that shouldn't have gotten them off track...!]
[ to have the dense fog give way, zhongli thought for a moment that they might have found something - but when it turns out to be their starting point, his hand comes to his chin and he regards the now-familiar place they've found themselves in. ]
We corrected our course, when encountering something that could not simply be passed over. I know this for certain.
There are a number of situations that could lead to such a phenomena. This world, wherever it may be, could be small enough to facilitate such a trek becoming a "huge circle," or there are powers in play that would prevent us from leaving this designated area. Whether it be a person, or the powers of the location itself... I wouldn't be able to say.

Let's go. I'd rather not spend too long around here.

[ onwards! head up, one foot in front of the other, maintaining as straight a path as possible. ]

This is going to be a drag of an eternity, if all we have is a tiny transparent place with one fast food place.

It's more akin to an in-between, a sort of waiting room, than a true afterlife. Ideally that truly applies.
