If you're performing magic, you are a mage, but you can call yourself what you like. The source of all magic is divine, it is a Maker-given gift.
[ said in a duh tone. the dalish would disagree but there's no dalish here. maybe that's whats happening here, it's an Elf thing. sometimes they do call the fade something different but he doesn't pay that much attention to dalish lore. ]
The Fade is the realm beyond the Veil that separates it from our world. It is inhabited by spirits, and it is where our souls pass through after our deaths. And you would have gone there while dreaming ... ? In theory, it should be where we are now.
[okay she just waits for him to stop mansplaining magic to her.]
I have travelled to other planes both in my dreams and waking. I simply have not heard it called the Fade before. But it does not sound dissimilar to the Shadowfell or the astral sea.
I'm sure a cloister education has its limits, too, but I know enough. When I say magic is divine, I do not mean it in the sense you do. My power is granted to me by my goddess. It is not the same as the arcane power wielded by wizards and sorcerers, even if that power is the domain of a goddess too.
[ oh. elf stuff. but then confusingly she also mentioned cloister like a Sister, but maybe it's a weird Circle. In Nevarra or something. ]
Believe what you will, but Chantry law defines us all the same regardless, and they are the ones enforcing their will on us. We can argue magic origin theory until we are blue in the face, but it won't make us any less mages, and it won't make us any more free.

There you are then. I haven't heard it called that, but that's a Circle education for you.

Baldur's Gate, though I have not been home in some time now. And you?

[ is he finally realizing they are having two different conversations. ]
I was last in Kirkwall. If I'm from anywhere, I suppose it's Ferelden.
